NP comes up short vs. LC By TODD THORPE The Intelligencer GWYNEDD VALLEY - It was there for the taking. Again. Last year, North Penn, mired in a difficult stretch to start the season, went to the Griffin Complex on the campus of Gwynedd-Mercy College and knocked off rival Lansdale Catholic in the annual pre-Christmas showdown between the two schools. Saturday, the Maidens had a chance again, but this time LC played solid enough defense in the second half and held on for an ugly 49-42 victory. The Crusaders (7-2) were never in sync, as they missed a lot of shots both from the field and the foul line. "We were mad at ourselves for missing high percentage shots," LC freshman point guard Michele Brokans said. "Even in the first quarter we were missing them and we weren't making our foul shots, so at halftime we were pretty upset. After that, we were like, 'We have to win this game,' and we stepped up." But LC still managed a victory, even if it wasn't their best effort, thanks in large part to Brokans, who went 7-for-9 from the line and scored a team-high 16 points as well as grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out three assists.
